Gifted Services

In Grades K-2, students are provided opportunities for enrichment and academic challenge within the general education classroom. Beginning in second grade, students will be assessed for gifted identification in reading, math, and superior cognitive ability.

Meet Our Gifted Intervention Specialist

Our GIS partners with our classroom teachers to provide training and strategies for differentiating our gifted students' learning in their identified areas.

Christy Duke began her teaching career in West Virginia before relocating and joining Freedom in 2002.  She taught 5th grade for 12 years before becoming Freedom’s GIS in 2014.  She is both a “word nerd” and a “math puzzle person” and loves working with all sorts of puzzling activities.  She often ”teaches through puzzles” to help students find a friendly way into the subject matter.

When not at school, she enjoys collecting antique holiday items, challenging her husband at pinball, and visiting museums.

About Gifted Services

Lakota is committed to providing every single student with a unique and challenging educational experience.

While Gifted Services are not mandated in Ohio, Lakota believes in providing a quality and rigorous education that challenges all students. Through a large menu of opportunities, advanced students may be identified as gifted and participate in a wide continuum of programs or services designed to meet their unique learning needs, including:

  • An advanced curriculum;
  • Use of differentiated instructional strategies;
  • Placement in specific gifted programs;
  • Subject or whole grade acceleration or advancement;

The type of service and programming provided to gifted students depends on recent assessment data and what is determined to be most appropriate in meeting an individual student’s needs.
